Hello all,

It is not just San Diego that is against it. While I don't know all the intricacies, I learned a loophole existed within the conference rules which SMC tried to use to get Rob Jones in this year. The WCC strongly recommended that SMC not use the loophole. They then looked at the JC route, completely legal, but were strongly encouraged not to go this route either. The WCC then said because conference rules for this situation were vague, ALL THE SCHOOLS, through their presidents, would weigh in on the intra-transfer request. Apparently, Jones playing at SMC has become very political within the conference and there are 3 choices from which the schools can choose: (1) Let him play this year; (2) make him sit a year and have 2 years of eligibility; or (3) make him sit a year, make him lose a year, and only have one year of eligibility left.

I doubt #1 will happen. My bet is on #2 because his father is very sick.... though basketball is the conference's #1 sport and it would not surprise me if #3 is the resolution. The latter being a complete shame if it is due to petty jealousy.

GO GAELS!
