I don't know if I agree with the way he's gone about this, but the truth of the matter is this team was better without Wayne Hunter.  The reason this team was so good was because everyone understood their roles.  Mickey knew he was supposed to make 3's and get the ball into Omar.  Delly knew he was supposed to knock down 3's, penetrate, and get the ball to the big fellah.  Clint and Benny understood their roles the same.  That is where Wayne was off.  In his head, he thought he had to score for this team to be successful... it was proven that was not the case.  If Wayne understood what he needed to do to help the team win (defend, and simply be the 5th option offensively who maybe took 3 or 4 shots a game) he would have been an asset.  Instead he took 10 shots a game, completely threw everyone else out of a rhythm, and held them back.  As you can see now, Mickey really took off after Wayne's injury, and Mickey had one of the most efficient seasons offensively of any guard in WCC basketball history.  Think I'm crazy?? Look at the stats.  Mickey was considerably more efficient than Patty, and that's a fact.  Averaged more assists, less TO's, and lead the NATION in 3pt percentage.  Mickey WOULD NOT have had this kind of season if Wayne was healthy, because he would not have become such an important cog in the offense.  Instead Wayne would have taken the same low % shots that he had in the first 5 games, and the Gaels would have been a low-level NIT team.

People don't understand that this was probably a very difficult situation for Randy and Kyle.  It is hard to tell a 5th year senior that he needs to change the way he plays because they want a junior (Mickey) and a true freshman guard (Delly) to have the keys to the offense.  My guess is they were going to let it play out for a few more games, and when enough stats had accumulated to make their case inarguable they would have approached Wayne and asked him to change.

Wayne was not an efficient player offensively, and that is why this team was as good as they were. Why Clint was such a good substitute is because he might not have always been productive on offense, he NEVER hurt the offense with bad shots or TO's. He knew his role, and embraced it. Take out Wayne's games against Cal Poly and Maritime and you have atrocious #'s across the board.

Lastly, I don't think it's fair to argue that girliegael is too hard on Wayne.  He isn't saying Wayne is a bad person, from what everyone says Wayne is a very good young man.  This is just discussing his production on the court, nothing to do with him personally.  I hope the best for Wayne, I hope he gets his degree this spring, because as we all know that is the most important thing for these young men who wear the Gael uniform, to get their degrees and represent the name of Saint Mary's College well in the community that they serve.

God is a Gael!

ps- Girliegael... i personally agree with you...and think you were right for what it's worth
