Just a question for posters:

Would you really take two years of Trumaine Johnson over one year of Wayne Hunter? Hunter knows the system, understands Bennett's mentality, and has bought into the system. Trumaine on the other hand, really hasn't been around SMC and coming from Bill Grier's offense probably is used to the flex offense. Neither of these guys is ever going to start for the Gaels, but at least with Wayne you know that if you need to start him in a pinch there won't be a drop off as in understanding what the strategies are on both ends of the floor.

No way. This isn't a knock on Trumaine, but an endorsement of Wayne. If we go with Hunter, a proven commodity, we get one heck of a year; and then the slot's open next year for a big recruit, hopefully a kid from the AIS. If we go with Trumaine, we may get two great years out of him. It's also likely that he will require a year to learn the schemes, and adjust to SMC his first year. In the meantime though that scholarship slot will be tied up for an additional year.

However, I disagree regarding Wayne's ability to start. Clint learned a lot and grew a lot this year, and played on was tested on the biggest stages. However, Wayne initially beat him out, and who's to say he won't do it again? If Hunter gets the 6th year he's going to have an unmatched maturity, and more importantly, an unmatched hunger. Wayne's defense is already scary, on top of that he has a lot to prove. This is all arguably a moot point though. Next year our team's going to rely more on team speed and athleticism. In order to sustain that tempo, our bench players will have to play much bigger roles than they did this season.

Go Gaels!
