The Gael men went down 2-1 in overtime to 25th-ranked Cal State Northridge Sunday. The game seemed to hinge on the removal of Gael defender Rafael Sanchez via a red card early in the second half with the Gaels leading 1-0. It is very difficult to maintain a lead against a good team like Northridge while playing with a man down, but the Gaels almost pulled it off and escaped with a tie. The Matadors scored the winner with just seconds left in the overtime period. Here's the game story from LA Soccer News:

No. 25 Cal State Northridge rallies for OT win over St. Mary's

Brian Behrad scored two goals, including the game winner in overtime, and Cal State Northridge's men extended their season-opening winning streak to four games Sunday with a 2-1 victory over visiting St. Mary's.

Behrad tallied in the 56th and 100th minutes, his third and fourth goals of the season, as the Matadors (4-0-0) posted their best start since 1987 -- and their best ever as a Division I program.

Ismail Adam gave the Gaels (2-1-0) a 34th-minute lead, intercepting a pass, carrying forward and ripping a shot from 30 yards into the lower-left corner.

CSUN, which had a 24-13 shot advantage, took command after St. Mary's defender Rafael Sanchez was red-carded four minutes into the second half. Behrad headed home the equalizer, from Chris Smith's corner kick, 6½ minutes later.

Behrad scored the winner with six seconds remaining in the first half of the overtime period. Beto Velasquez collected a throw-in and fed Steven Manios, and Behrad headed home Manios' cross to the far post.

The Matadors play their first road games next weekend at the University of New Mexico's tournament, taking on Central Arkansas on Friday and New Mexico on Sunday.
