Posts: 1296 Jan 18 12 9:27 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I took a look at our recruiting history so see if we are improving: 2007- McConnell (ESPN grade 50) 2008- Williams and Chiverton (both 76's) 2009- Dellavedova (86), Young (85), Harris & Page (84) 2010- Holt (91) and Waldow (88) 2011- None 2012- Reyes (88 commit) and Spickerman (82 considering) 2013- Lee (90 considering) and Hopkins (91 considering) I see an improvement and hope it continues. I also see that these ratings are not accurate at times (McConnell a 50 is proof).

If this was a monetary issue, I would say ESPN is targeting a 7 percent rating inflation rate per year. But the point stands, I think recruiting has improved. Although we have had a share of busts too- Tim Williams, Colin Chiverton, Rowley, etc. Transfers, beyond Ben Allen and Rob Jones, have been very bust-prone or at least only role-players. Let's hope Matt Hodgson is another exception to the rule.

Posts: 2368 Jan 18 12 9:53 AM Bleeding Red and Blue Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Urika, I did get a chance to watch Marcus Lee at the MLK tourney at Cal on Monday, and my reaction was divided. While you love his body -- he epitomizes what coaches mean by "long" -- he seemed the least polished of the future stars on display (Aaron Gordon is so far ahead of the others that it's ridiculous). But, if RB (who was there along with two of his assistants) has, indeed, offered him a scholie, I gladly defer to his superior judgment. He knows what it takes to turn a rough diamond into a polished jewel, and if he thinks Marcus can become that, I'm with him.

Posts: 1040 Jan 18 12 10:02 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I saw a little bit of Lee when he was at the De La Salle tournament over the break as they were ironically playing Reyes team. Didn't know who he was and figured the SMC staff was their to watch/support Reyes but learned otherwise afetr the game. Only saw him for 1 quarter and was more watching Reyes but I did note that he definitely has some hops. Reyes played much better though, imho, for the ONE quarter I saw.

At the DLS game against Damien, someone in his family was sitting next to me, and said he has grown 2 inches just this year. So, he COULD end up 6'10 I agree with Alameda fan on this kid. FAR from a polished player ....... But my motto is this .... "In Randy we trust" ...... I'd take the kid. He is long, quick, athletic and has serious hops. Seemed to be VERY active around the basket. He is only a junior. And lets face it folks ..... if he was as good as Gordon from Mitty ..... he wouldnt be talking to us. Down side : Didnt seem to be a great outside shooter, his fundamentals looked a bit "raw", and needs to gain some weight and add muscle. I like him. And so do others. He allready has several offers. Including WASH STATE according to ESPN. I'd take him. Freak

Posts: 12 Jan 18 12 6:25 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've seen Jaron a few times, I know his preference is to play pg as he does at Batha and his AAU team. He's a legit 6'4" and is still just 16 years old so could still have some growing. Superb ball handler, good in open court going to rim, slightly above average speed. He really needs to work on perimeter shooting, especially shooting mechanics and footwork. He also lacks a good 1st step, especially for a guy who is so explosive at rim. He'll get alot better this summer which I suspect may bring in more Big schools, could even see Duke, UK, UNC types come to his door if he were to have solid AAU season and get 1-2 inches taller. Very naturally strong player with excellent hands. Reminds me alot of Holt only bit less explosive 1st step, much less balance shooter but more powerful at rim and 1-2" taller. I would personally like to see them look local at Salesian's Mario Dunn and Jabari Bird. Mario is a lightening quick prototype pg at 5'10" but very powerful. He would be ideally suited to Gael passing game and could see solid minutes off bench 2 years from now as backup to Holt & Page, then start for next 3 years. Bird is more athletic, faster and quicker than Hopkins, better fundamental shooter, though still needs alot of work. His biggest needs are lots of time in weight room and ball handling. He is super long for a 6'5" kid. I know every Pac 12 team is going hard for him but RB could make a compelling case for this young man, to develop him, see immediate action, consistent winning program and Catholic faith based education that he currently enjoys. Nothing against recruiting from beyond our area but Bay Area has several really talented kids that I constantly see leaving area when I know they would choose locally if given proper environment and situation such as to stay close to home. FWIW: Reyes is a nice looking young player. Very reminiscent of Kickert only less range. Super smooth, smart, skilled player, gets alot out of his abilities.

Strong connection to other SMC players via AAU Bay Area Hoosier program. I actually think we could see two players from that program in class of 2013...Omar may have been understated, "SMC truly just Reloads". It really is the Bennett factor....

UCLA, Texas, Texas A&M, Northwestern, Arizona, and Washington have all offered to name a few and Florida, Indiana, Baylor, and Kansas are all recruiting him.

I see Sherri frequently at her job Marcus and youngest son are great friends and teammates on AAU team. Your last comment makes you lose all crediability about Marcus Lee. But thank you for your percieved insights, I am sure ESPN blogs are the most accurate assessment. Let me ask you a question...what is the connection btwn SMC and the Lee family?
