Based on what I've read over the last week or so, even if we offered to pay for the bandwith, HD cameras, and employee the people that would run it, the athletic department would say "no."

How can someone bellyache about not having something when it's right under his/her nose? Get a grip, for criminy's sake.Maye you had to be here in the 60s to understand really putrid athletic facilities, teams, coaches, administration, promotion, etc., etc. Whatever the reason, most of the belly-aching seems to come from more recent grads. What causes the inability to see the forest for the trees? To not appreciate that SMC teams in men's basketball, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer and...almost, almost, almost...women's basketball are NATIONALLY RANKED? The men's soccer program just completed a season in which they made it to the Elite Eight in a sport not even offered when I was a student. That is a mind-boggling accomplishment, and adds Coach Cooper to a distinguished list that already includes the twin RBs (well, they're not really twins but are dynamite coaches) and the marvelous women's tennis coach. I know she's good because Freak tells me so, and I believe him. That snide comment about replacing Mike Samuels is a perfect example. What does the poster know about what's going on with that search? Maybe they're being careful, maybe the salary allotted isn't sufficient to hire a top candidate (Mike was brought up through the ranks), maybe a million things. Instead of giving the college the benefit of the doubt, however, it's much easier to snap off a semi-witty crack and admire the handiwork. It's so tiresome it makes my teeth ache.

Reminds me of the pro baseball team owners, back when radio was invented, who initially refused to let the games be broadcast bc they thought it lowered attendance at the games and reduce revenues. They obviously don't do this anymore. Why? You want to build up a fan base, you want to attract more fans who support the team and buy tickets to go to games, you want mnore fans who invest in the team by purchasing the TV package, let them get their feet wet and "buy in" by following the team on free radio broadcasts. It is crazy that gael fans have to go onto the other team's athletic website to get access to a radio call of the game. The fact that many of the other teams also broadcast the TV for free is a different topic.

During breaks in the internet broadcast of the game did you hear all the sponsers being thanked. I believe most of that was from the radio side of the broadcast, but the list was long and no doubt those sponsers contributed to the internet broadcast as well. Not that it couldn't be done but I don't believe that Saint Mary's has that deep a sponsership list at this point.
