  Superseding even scheduling or lineup restructuring issues is, "Who gets the three scholarships for 2012?" This is a crucial moment for SMC hoops (the program, not the poster), as we don't usually get this many newcomers at once. The last was the class of Delly, Jordy and Mitch, and that one has worked out pretty well. Will we top it this year following even greater success than preceded that 2009 windfall?

RB's public, or semi-public, observation was that he was looking for a strong forward type to replace Rob Jones (perhaps a JC transfer) and a freshman guard (not a transfer or a JC guy -- someone to grow in the system for four years). We have Chris Reyes, who, I don't believe, fills the bill as the Rob Jones fill-in. In the best of all possible worlds, Reyes would be allowed to redshirt next year. As for potential guard recruits, there have been several candidates mentioned in the various scouting outlets and on this forum: Parker Uu, Amedeo Della Valle, Dewayne Russell and Brandon Taylor, to name the most obvious (but certainly not the whole spectrum of choices). With this backdrop I was intrigued by the rumor coming out of Omaha that an Aussie guard was coming our way next fall. This is actually more than a rumor, since I am told it was being discussed by Clint's dad during the NCAA tournament. That's kind of a good source.

Problem is, it's almost impossible to find any discussion of promising Aussie guards who could be headed to the U.S. in the fall. The names associated with SMC, most notably Dante Exum, are not guards. So, who could Mr. Stiendl be talking about? Surely some of our posters from Down Under can come up with a possibles list. There is no more better grist for a hot stove league than potential recruits.

He's also an athletic gypsy, having played basketball in Oceanside, CA as a sophomore, Dunbar, OH as a junior and, I guess, the AIS as a senior this year. His dad, Steve Snow, played hoops at Cal State Fullerton and later as a pro in Australia. He will (or has) turn[ed] 20 sometime this year, as he was born in 1992. He listed his size as 5-11 and 130 lbs on one of his profiles, but the AIS photo makes it seem that he has filled out some. Intriguing prospect with some serious hops.

Why stop there, fenian? How about introducing him by having him jump from the players' bench to the center of the court. They could mark off his various landings as the season goes along, urging him to set the record for the basketball court long jump. The possibilities are endless.
