Valerie Moore of Modesto Christian HS, who has verbally committed to Saint Mary's, was named by the Modesto Bee as the Stanislaus District player of the year. The numbers are impressive: 5-10, 16 ppg, 10 reb and 4.4 GPA.
There's a nice article on Valerie, indicating she had initially planned to go to Dominican but was released and will sign her letter of intent to SMC this month. Sounds like she didn't really emerge as a D1 prospect until late this season. She tore her ACL in her sophomore year and missed half of her junior year, then played as a 6th man. Despite the team losing all 5 starters from last year, Valerie led them to a 27-win season and the Northern California D3 semifinal game (even though the school's small size should have put them down in the D5 category).
