Posts: 28 Apr 28 12 9:06 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	In the Sac tournament SMC beat Cal in two sets. I saw the scrimmage with Cal last weekend which was a split, 2-2. The Gaels did very well and looked like good. Should be a very good year. Against Cal SMC is 4-2 this spring and won't play them again until fall.

Gaels started on 11-0 run behind tough serves of Dallas Dodd. good to see her on the court & contributing. Gaels won first set and lost the second. i bailed after the 2nd set. other impressions: kristina graven gives the Gaels a very legit sized OH. she hits a heavy and fast ball. other transfer mandeville was on crutches (i think). tinsley didn't play in the two sets i saw but was dressed. lots of playing time for the whole roster. one of those twins on roster developed a pretty tough serve. cal looked kinda just OK but that was before the announced transfer of the USF setter Joan Calliooouiiaaabunchofvowels - i've watched her the past 2 years; she's very good & will make Cal better than they would have been without her. her transfer will be a setback for USF - i thought that team was on the rise - with the tall Eastern Euros + a dominent setter, they seemed poised to me but not now.

That impressive player from USF was Joan Caloiaro, sister of the basketball Dons' departing senior Angelo. Her transfer to Cal in the midst of six players bailing out on the basketball team caused many cries of "foul," "traitor" and other things from the Dons' faithful. Posts: 23 Apr 29 12 5:35 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I haven't seen SMC play this spring, but am encouraged by what I hear. Spring is difficult because some coaches play to win and some play to test line ups and give experience. Rob has played tons of girls and lots of different combinations and they have done well. Some good wins some losses but neither matter as long as it helps a team prepare for the fall. From what I hear, Mendivil has been out all spring with an injury that she has had the entire time she has been in college, it's just nobody was able to diagnose it correctly until she came to SMC. She should be ready to contribute when fall gets here, and should make a big difference. Her and Graven are the same size and have great experience. Some other injuries have occurred but lets hope the girls can get healthy and SMC can make a big run this coming season!

Curious to see if RBII runs pure 5/1 or goes back to 6/2 offense like White/Kapua combination a couple of seasons ago.

Posts: 23 Jun 4 12 9:14 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	From what I heard he did some of both. Sometimes he ran a 6/2 sometimes a 5/1. He really mixed it up a lot. SMC will have quite a few hitters and a 6/2 would give them more of a chance to have them on the court, I'm just not sure how ready Dodd will be. But either way, this year they should have some people available if injuries occur where last year they didn't.

Mendivil and Dodd coming off of inury looks promising. I would like to see Graven and a healthy Shaw push Corp at OH. Key this season will be production from middles in offense and defense
